Coming of Age Day

Posted by
Hoshisato (Dippach, Luxembourg) on 18 February 2018 in Documentary & Street.

The second Monday of the New Year is Coming of Age Day in Japan and lots of the new adults of 20 years old join the special ceremonies held for the occasion. The girls dress up in kimono and this photo was taken on the grounds of the Meiji Jingu shrine in the centre of Tokyo. The guys do make a bit less of an effort to mark the occasion.

Shot on KODAK TRI-X at EI 800, developed in HC-110 dilution B for 11 minutes. Agitation: 2 inversions every 30 seconds.

For the inside information about these shots, follow me on my blog at monochrome.me.uk or on Instagram.

You are shooting digital now, but deep down, maybe even unbeknown to you, you want to try film and find out why so many happy people are still using it. If so, once you are ready to take the next step to being a happy photographer, visit my page dedicated to film photography here.
