Pond in Kenroku-en in Kanazawa

Posted by Hoshisato (Ealing, United Kingdom) on 12 August 2009 in Landscape & Rural and Portfolio.

The amazing part of this samurai garden is that it has been sculpted and constructed to the minutest detail by men and yet it looks so incredible natural. As I wrote in my post for my take on the Kotoji-tōrō lantern: According to the ancient Chinese book of gardens, there are six different qualities to which a garden can aspire. Grouped in their traditional complementary pairs they are: spaciousness & seclusion, artifice & antiquity, water-courses & panoramas. Kenroku-en, literally meaning Six Attributes Garden, has all six qualities.
