Kotaro Takamura's bench

Close to Hanamaki in Iwate province, you can find the house and park of poet Kotaro Takamura. While we foreigners very much wallow in the haiku and other forms of very formalized Japanese poetry, it is important to recognize the importance of Kotaro Takamura who in the Chieko poems was one of the first Japanese to break free from fixed vocabulary, expressions and syllabic count.
