Northern ShovelerPosted by Hoshisato (Ealing, United Kingdom) on 29 March 2009 in Animal & Insect and Portfolio. Taken from the London Wetland Centre Peacock Tower, the three stories tall viewing hide, in the area with the "real" birds. One of the birds for which I always kept an eye out and I was very happy to spot several today. Like the photo of the cormorant, I really relied on the 14.6 mega pixels of the Pentax K20D to allow me to crop to just a small area of the photo taken; what marketing calls "Digital Zoom." :-) The Sigma 28-300mm - 1:3.5-6.3 lens I used (bought for almost nothing) is too soft for this work and I'm tempted to buy the Sigma 2x converter for my Sigma 70-200mm 1:2.8 EX APO which will turn it into a 140-400mm 1:5.6 lens while keeping autofocus, etc. Thanks for all your comments, please keep them coming. You will do me a great favour by visiting my black and white gallery or blog. For my trip reports, please visit my Travel Blog page. I'll be in NL for the holidays if I can make it through the forecast snowstorms, see you in 2010! Update: I've not been able to reach Dover for two days in a row now, P&O ferries are not able to take any calls, I have no idea when I'll manage to make it to NL ^_^;;
