Kotoji-tōrōPosted by Hoshisato (Ealing, United Kingdom) on 16 October 2008 in Lifestyle & Culture and Portfolio. The most famous point of interest in the samurai garden Kenroku-en in Kanazawa: the Kotoji-tōrō; a stone lantern with two legs, said to resemble the bridge on a koto. According to the ancient Chinese book of gardens, there are six different qualities to which a garden can aspire. Grouped in their traditional complementary pairs they are: spaciousness & seclusion, artifice & antiquity, water-courses & panoramas. Kenroku-en, literally meaning Six Attributes Garden, has all six qualities. Thanks for all your comments, please keep them coming.
