Omikuji #1Posted by Hoshisato (Ealing, United Kingdom) on 4 October 2008 in Lifestyle & Culture and Portfolio. Omikuji, random fortunes written on strips of paper at Shinto shrines and Buddhist temples in Japan, tied around the branches of a pine tree and virtually everywhere else. Taken at Izumo Taisha, an important shrine dedicated to marriage; it is clear that that is a popular subject in Japan too. The reason for the pine tree (松の木 - matsu no ki) is that it is a play on words with the Japanese word for the verb 'to wait' (待つ - matsu). Thanks for all your comments, please keep them coming.
