Onsen at Mývatn

Posted by Hoshisato (Ealing, United Kingdom) on 28 June 2008 in Lifestyle & Culture and Portfolio.

Just outside of Mývatn, the Jarðböðin Nature Baths were created in 2004 using exhaust water from the nearby geothermal electricity plant. We stopped and soaked our bodies tired of sitting in the car all day; if there is one drawback to a counter-clockwise trip around Iceland, it is the long hours in the car. We didn't have a chance to visit the more famous Blue Lagoon spa close to Reykjavik, but this was probably even better as at the end of the longest day in the car we were really longing for a hot bath and it reminded us of the rotemburo we have visited many times in Japan, except you wear a bathing suit in Iceland. It was hot at places, but not as hot as the Takinoyu (Jijiburo) in Naruko Onsen. ^_^;;

This is the last colour photo of our trip to Iceland which I wanted to show you. If you are interested in our itinerary, please have a look at my TravelBlog entry for this trip.

I'll be in NL for the holidays if I can make it through the forecast snowstorms, see you in 2010! Update: I've not been able to reach Dover for two days in a row now, P&O ferries are not able to take any calls, I have no idea when I'll manage to make it to NL ^_^;;
