@GJC: I completely agree that both are too bombastic in their own right and that putting them together was an act of madness, but then I slowly got used to it and started to appreciate the contrast. To me it is certainly not a case where madness turns into genius, that's for sure ^_^;;

@dj.tigersprout: Stitching of photos is easier than you would think. The photos above were two hand-held photos that I had taken without stitching in mind. I only discovered Photomerge in Photoshop (File / New / Photomerge) by accident a year later. To take it to the next level you need a panoramic head on your tripod for your camera / lens combination, but for shots like this you don't even need a tripod, just don't change your zoom position and white balance (shoot RAW), and try not to move too much.
The Photoshop tool is not very good at blending backgrounds and I got much better results with PTGui especially in combination with smartblend.
